A few habits make all the difference.
No two windows are the same.
Two openings can look identical and still be off by half an inch. Measure and label each one; It's a small habit that saves a lot of guesswork later.
Small numbers matter here.
Use a rigid metal tape, keep it level, and write each number down the moment you take it. Hold off on rounding until your very last entry, since precision now means a perfect fit later.

From hardware position to the final look.
Four decisions, in order. Take them one at a time and you can't go wrong.
01Mounting position
Choose where the hardware will live.
This decision shapes everything after it. For an outside mount, set the rod or track high and wide enough to frame the window, with room for the panels to stack-back when open. For an inside mount, the rod or track sits within the frame so width accuracy matters most.
- Confirm solid fixing space above, beside or within the frame.
- Check for vents, trim, handles, and furniture in the way.
- Mark your center line with removable tape.
A more finished lookMounting higher makes the room feel taller. Extending past the frame lets more glass show when panels are open.
02Finished width
Measure the rod or track, not just the glass.
You're measuring where the curtains will actually travel, not the window opening. For a rod, skip the decorative finials. For a track, measure end to end.
- Measure twice and check the numbers agree.
- Include the return if the treatment wraps toward the wall.
- Give each room its own line.

03Finished length
Measure from where it hangs to where it ends.
Start where the panel hangs from the rod or track, then measure down to the floor, sill, or wherever you'd like it to land.
- Measure on the left, center, and right. Floors aren't always level.
- Use the shortest result if they don't match.
- Choose your finish: a crisp clearance, a soft break, or a deliberate puddle.
A note on floor clearanceA small clearance above the floor is easy to leave with day to day. Want it softer? A longer break creates a relaxed pool of fabric.
04Final review
Step back and look at the whole window.
Before ordering, review mounting position, width, length, panel arrangement, heading, and lining together, as one picture.
- Confirm single panel or a pair.
- Label the room and window in your notes.
- Photograph the full window and close-up mounting area.

Should I measure the window or the curtain rod?
For drapery, the installed rod or track is the most useful finished-width reference. If the hardware is not installed yet, mark its intended position first and measure that planned span.
What if my floor is not level?
Measure the length at the left, center, and right. Use the shortest measurement for a clean floor-skimming finish, or contact us if the difference is significant.
Do I divide the width when i'm ordering a pair?
That depends on how the product configurator defines width. Follow the wording shown beside the width field and contact us before checkout if the total-versus-panel width is unclear.
Can someone at VeloFold double-check my measurements?
Yes. Send the written dimensions, a full-window photo, and close-ups of the planned mounting surface. We can review the information for obvious inconsistencies before you place the order.
